The new computerized lasers (CO2 or Erbium) can precisely remove superficial layers of skin. This allows new skin to form containing fresh collagen and elastic fibers. The new skin generally has a younger, fresher appearance, free of many fine wrinkles, dark "age" spots and other blemishes. With the deeper penetrating CO-2 laser, the results can be quite remarkable, resulting in a skin that can look and feel 10 to 20 years younger.

Advantages
Office procedure, and depending on the depth of treatment, long lasting dramatic results, often comparable to a facelift but without any surgical look. Can be used on limited areas such as upper lip and lower lid/crow's feet.

Disadvantages
The deeper treatments take longer to recover (10 - 14 days) and some redness can persist even longer. Need to stay out of the sun, and use make up to cover redness for one to three months. Recovery with more superficial treatments is faster but the long term results, especially on wrinkles, are unpredictable.
